Yom Kippur approaches, and people are totally focused on THEIR personal repentance; that THEY should be forgiven for their shortcomings this past year. Personally, I am consumed with two elements - this being the 40th anniversary of the Yom Kippur War of 1973, when we attacked by Syria & Egypt. If it wasn't for HaShem's miracles and the incredible valor and sacrifice of our men of the IDF - we don't know how it could have ended up.

My heart goes out to those families who lost their sons, brothers, fathers and friends. For the size of our population at the time (3.5 million), the almost 2,800 who were killed (with 4 times that amount greviously wounded), it would have been the equivalent of the American Army losing 250,000 men (based on the American population of 1973); in a 3 week period ot time...there wasn't a family here in Israel that was not affected by the war, and its casualties.

People are focused on personal tshuva (return, or 'repentance') when we need to be focused on a NATIONAL tshuva. To examine how we need to act as a NATION - and what our priorities for this year need to be. Where do we (AS A NATION) see ourselves? What do we want to accomplish?

People are also focused on being forgiven; okay, I can understand...So what will I be begging forgiveness for? For not doing enough for Israel - not defending our beloved Chosen Land as much as I should have been; for not doing enough to help rebuild the Temple; for not doing enough to grow support for Israel out in the "world" - where people know so little of what my beloved Land is about. And I did not do enough to bring about the return of ALL the 'tribes' of Israel; to bring them home.... The prophets cry out about the reunion of Judah & Ephraim, and I did not do enough to help make it happen....

I am not merely looking for 'forgiveness' for those failings - May I be given the chance to right those wrongs, to show that I can attone for them by making 5774 a year of focus, restoration and accomplishment. No excuses, no tomorrows...redemption, NOW.

Sending you all love & hugs on this day of accountability,
from the Chosen Land
