Without the rule of law, we don’t have a country, and we now have a president who believes in rule by empathy. President Obama picks and chooses which laws he will follow. He has repeatedly disregarded our Constitution and ignores the separation of powers.
President Obama chose not to enforce immigration law and told ICE not to enforce the law. One “prosecutorial discretion” memo published in 2011 says officials need not enforce immigration laws if illegal immigrants are enrolled in an education center or if their relatives have volunteered for the US military.
“They’re pushing the [immigration] agents to be even more lax, to go further in not enforcing the law,” said Kris Kobach, Kansas’ secretary of state. “At a time when millions of Americans are unemployed and looking for work, this is more bad news coming from the Obama administration… [if the administration] really cared about putting Americans back to work, it would be vigorously enforcing the law,” said Kobach, who has helped legislators in several states draft local immigration-related laws…” Read more at Quasi-Amnesty
That was only one memo of many. He gave temporary amnesty to the DREAMers without proper vetting. When the faux sequester crisis was announced his Department of Homeland Security released thousands of criminal aliens into US streets.
When Obama appointed justices to the Supreme Court, he made it clear that he wanted them to make empathetic decisions which is a significant turning away from the rule of law:
“I will seek . . . someone who understands justice and isn’t about some abstract legal theory or footnote in a case book . . . I view that quality of empathy of understanding and identifying what people’s hopes and struggles as an essential ingredient for arriving at just decisions and outcomes.” — President Barack Obama, May 2009
Justice Kagan is one of his empathetic Justices who helped write Obamacare and then decided its constitutionality when it came before SCOTUS. The questionable ethics of this was irrelevant compared to her feeling that Obamacare needed to be passed.
Kagan is sympathetic to the entitlement state. When the Medicaid expansion was discussed before the court she said:
… why is a big gift from the Federal government a matter of coercion? In other words, the Federal government is here saying, we are giving you a boatload of money. There are no -there’s no matching funds requirement, there are no extraneous conditions attached to it, it’s just a boatload of Federal money for you to take and spend on poor people’s healthcare. It doesn’t sound coercive to me, I have to tell you.
The boatload of money – the gift – is taxpayer money. If states don’t do it, they will be penalized by the voters and businesses will be fined. That is coercion.
At the time, Kagan made her argument with a straw man. She said that this is federalism and it’s like giving a gift certificate (again, our money, not hers). She was not only advocating a fundamental change in the way the government interacts with the individual, but also with the states. This is an enormous intrusion on state’ rights.
Obamacare is a travesty. The government can make you buy anything thanks to the SCOTUS decision on the individual mandate. It was the largest tax increase on the citizens of the United States in our country’s history.
The Department of Justice has gone rogue. Eric Holder lies unabashedly and is never held to account. He surreptitiously grabbed records from the AP and labeled reporter James Rosen a co-conspirator only so he could spy on him and Fox News.
This is nothing new. Holder has been using his office as a political weapon for four years.
In 2011, Holder began a re-investigation of six CIA agents who used legal (at the time) enhanced interrogation to obtain information which helped lead to the capture of Osama bin Laden. There had already been a complete investigation and the agents were cleared by an independent commission. The careers of these men were destroyed but it was never about about them. It was political, an effort by Holder to embarrass the former administration.
These men were interrogators who operated under the guidelines of the DOJ at the time. They were civil servants operating under the law.
Holder is not following the rule of law, he is politicizing the Department of Justice.
When Obama went to war in Libya, he did not ask permission of Congress despite the War Powers Act which demands it, but he did make certain he had permission from the UN.
“U.S. forces are playing a constrained and supporting role in a multinational coalition, whose operations are both legitimated by and limited to the terms of a United Nations Security Council Resolution that authorizes the use of force solely to protect civilians and civilian populated areas under attack or threat of attack and to enforce a no-fly zone and an arms embargo,” Obama said.
Our government legislates with Executive Orders and government agency regulations, circumventing the legislative branch in direct opposition to the intent of our Constitution. They are legislating from the White House. Our administration is abandoning the separation of powers.
Beginning August 1st, religious organizations and businesses owned by religious people will be forced to pay for abortifacients despite their core beliefs. Obama is violating the 1st Amendment rights of these people.
Obama has his agencies spying on us, targeting people with whom he disagrees, and collecting everyone’s phone records, e-mails, videos, audios, credit cards, and all Internet communications.
Our debt is now $16.7 trillion and Obama is accruing trillion dollar deficits each year with no signs of slowing. While more than 14% of our citizens and residents are unemployed or underemployed, Obama is planning a $100 million dollar trip to Africa. Tonight the First Family is in Ireland. Michelle is in her own $3300 dollar-a-night hotel room. She was accompanied by her entourage of 30. What happened to sequester?
Wiki defines Totalitarianism thusly:
Totalitarianism (or totalitarian rule) is a political system where the state recognizes no limits to its authority and strives to regulate every aspect of public and private life wherever feasible. Totalitarian regimes stay in political power through an all-encompassing propaganda campaign, which is disseminated through the state-controlled mass media, a single party that is often marked by political repression, personality cultism, control over the economy, regulation and restriction of speech, mass surveillance, and widespread use of terror.
It fits this administration to a tee.
Remember when Reverend Sharpton informed us that we all voted overwhelmingly for Socialism? He was telling the truth.
“It’s been a long, tough journey. But we have made some incredible strides together. Yes, we have. But the thing that we all ought to remember is that as much as good as we have done, precisely because the challenges were so daunting, precisely because we we were inheriting so many challenges, that we’re not even halfway there yet. When I said ‘change we can believe in’ I didn’t say ‘change we can believe in tomorrow.’ Not change we can believe in next week. We knew this was going to take time because we’ve got this big, messy, tough democracy,” President Obama said at a campaign fundraiser in Chicago
A government that spies on its citizens has enormous power:
