When Netanyahu’s in Town, We Have a Leader in D.C.

By Craig Andresen on March 5, 2012 at 7:38 am

Last week, from an AP wire story, we had this:
“Israeli officials said that if they eventually decide a strike is necessary, they would keep the Americans in the dark to decrease the likelihood that the U.S. would be held responsible for failing to stop Israel’s potential attack. The U.S. has been working with the Israelis for months to persuade them that an attack would be only a temporary setback to Iran’s nuclear program.”

This comes from a top level official in the Intelligence Department who, reportedly, is familiar with such discussions.

Bear in mind, Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu, will be in Washington DC on March 5th and will meet with Obama. They may talk about a variety of things. The Palestinian Authority…The price of rice in China…Why Obama is such a schmuck…
One thing Netanyahu will NOT talk to Obama about is Israel’s plans or a direct timeline to attack Iran “to decrease the likelihood that the U.S. would be held responsible for failing to stop Israel’s potential attack.” You don’t have to read between the lines here. It’s perfectly clear.
Allow me to translate…

Israel will not let Obama in on any plans because the fool and his administration have proven they can’t keep their anti-Israeli pro-Iranian pie holes shut.

Oh, I know the message was in English…It’s the Yiddish meaning of it I’m more than happy to translate. The great thing about such a colorful and cultural language is that even simple messages can contain many meanings.
Remember when Obama was caught on an open mic with Sarkozy? Sarkosy said, “Netanyahu, I can’t stand him. He’s a liar.” Obama then responded with, “You are sick of him, but I have to work with him every day.”

Let’s look at that statement from Israel again before we offer the next translation.

“Israeli officials said that if they eventually decide a strike is necessary, they would keep the Americans in the dark to decrease the likelihood that the U.S. would be held responsible for failing to stop Israel’s potential attack.”
The 2nd meaning…”If that putz Obama thinks it’s hard working with me every day…Let’s just see how he likes not working with me at all.”

The Prime Minister is a brilliant statesman and he knows full on well that whether or not we have any involvement in a strike against Iran…we ARE going to be blamed for it. By keeping Obama in the dark, Mr. Netanyahu is letting Obama know that had it not been for his insults, Obama would be on the INSIDE of the planning meetings rather than the OUTSIDE where whatever happens will come as just as big a surprise to Obama as it will to Iran.

Translation #3…”You can talk about time and space and sanctions all you want but, since all that talk has no meaning to Iran, and we’re no longer listening to it, you’re really just blathering to yourself.”
The 4th Meaning…”We know how busy you are trying to get your sorry butt reelected and we just don’t want to burden you with a “Leadership” decision.”

Translation 5…”We, in Israel, have noticed something over the last 3 years and we are addressing it now. Since you, Mr. Obama, have no intention of standing with us, we are providing you the unique opportunity of simply standing there watching us.”

It is believed that Obama will, in today’s meeting with Prime Minister Netanyahu, attempt to convince him that Israel should NOT rush into any military action against Iran and instead, allow time or sanctions to take effect.
It is also believed that Obama will tell Netanyahu that the U.S. will use its military if it becomes inevitable that Iran will develop nuclear weapons but they want “time and space” for the sanctions to work.

For his part, I expect Netanyahu to be statesmanlike, he always is, and I also expect him to take Obama to school…again.

Israel doesn’t have the ability to sit and wait for sanctions that will never take effect, to work against Iran. Netanyahu realizes the dire situation but cannot and will not wait for a putz like Obama to lead. Nor, one can suspect, will Netanyahu make clear any timeline he or his administration have in mind for the use of force.

Mr. Netanyahu could well explain to Obama how Obama’s leadership has placed the Muslim Brotherhood in a position of Power in Egypt and left the decade’s old peace treaty between Israel and Egypt hanging by the thinnest of threads.

He could exp[lain to Obama how leading from behind has the flag of al Qaeda flying in Benghazi.
Netanyahu could also explain to Obama how Obama’s leadership has emboldened the Palestinian Authority through Obama’s support for Palestinian statehood and a backdoor attempt to restore funding to an arm of the U.N. which DID recognize Palestinian statehood.

The Prime Minister should also explain how Obama’s total lack of leadership helped crush a popular uprising against the very Iranian government which is now seeking to develop nuclear weapons and how THAT non decision by Obama has hastened Iran’s move toward those weapons.

Obama was, in the last couple of days, quoted as saying, “Now is not the time for bluster. Now is the time to let our increased pressure sink in.”
Bluster?

Bluster on whose part? That he did not clarify but is he is accusing Israel of “Bluster” Obama is way off base.  If anyone employs bluster it’s Obama. Israel has a history of taking far more than their share of abuse but, when they’ve had enough, they’ve had enough and at that point, they take action. Nearly every time Israeli action is taken in response to actions by others which anywhere else in the world would be considered acts of war, Israel’s measured response is widely condemned on the world stage.

Before their meeting today,  public comments will be made and one could expect to hear Mr. Netanyahu say that the discussions will be frank and meaningful. That the United States and Israel are committed to preventing Iran from developing a nuclear weapons program and that the relationship between our two great nations remains as strong as ever.
Allow me one last translation.

“Israel has no intention of allowing Obama to do for Israel what he’s done for Egypt and Libya not do we have any intention of allowing Obama’s lack of leadership, which is currently on display in Syria to determine our strategy as it applies to the future existence of the state of Israel.”

Reportedly, there will be no public comments AFTER this meeting. It seems Obama may not wish to be schooled again.
