Despite disagreements over venue, US officials say they are confident nuclear talks between Tehran and the P5+1 will proceed next week.

The United States said Thursday it still expects talks between the P5+1 and Iran on the Islamic Republic's disputed nuclear program to go ahead next week.

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton had said the talks would open in Istanbul on April 13, but Iran later said that Turkey was not an acceptable host after the NATO member cut oil imports from Tehran in response to US pressure.

State Department spokesperson Mark Toner said: "We're still expecting this to take place next week, but there's certainly some degree of urgency in finalizing details.

"It was our expectation that this was going to be in Istanbul, but it's not for us to say one place over another.

"It is however important that we start to nail this down."

Toner said EU foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton was working with Iran to determine the details of the talks.

Iran last held talks with the six powers – Britain, China, France, Germany, Russia and the United States – in January 2011 with no results.

President Barack Obama's administration has been eager to resume diplomacy to avoid a military confrontation, amid speculation that Israel would decide to strike Iran if it determines that Tehran is going ahead with a nuclear bomb.

Nonetheless, Clinton said Wednesday that "the time for diplomacy is not infinite and all options remain on the table to prevent Iran from acquiring a nuclear weapon."

Her comments came as Iran expressed mounting concern over the deployment of a US missile shield in the region, which officials in Moscow and Tehran fear is intended to blunt an Iranian counter-strike should Washington or Jerusalem launch a raid on its nuclear facilities.

Iran says its sensitive uranium work is for peaceful purposes. However, Washington, its Western and Gulf Arab allies, and Israel charge Iran is seeking nuclear weapons.

Two recent reports by the International Atomic Energy Association have buttressedWashington’s view, as well as charging Iran with systemically stymieing inspections of its nuclear facilities under the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty.

Israeli spy Eli Cohen managed to eat matzah on Passover even while deeply enmeshed in life among the Syrian elite, his widow Nadia told Arutz Sheva.

Nadia explained that she had just heard the story of Eli’s Passover observance recently. “Just now two people from Syria told me that [Eli] knew that there were Jews in the marketplace. He would watch them from afar, then go and ask to taste some of the matzah,” she said.

“He didn’t want them to know he was Jewish, so he would say, ‘Let me taste some of that thing that you eat only on your week of holiday,’” she explained.

Eli Cohen (PHOTO/LEFT)managed to infiltrate the top ranks of Syrian leadership, and used his status to gather valuable security information, which he sent to Israel. The reports he sent were invaluable in helping Israel take the Golan during the Six Day War, two years after he was caught and executed.

Passover had a special meaning for the Cohen family, Nadia related. “Eli came to Israel from Egypt, he made aliyah in 1956,” she said.

The family has found a measure of comfort in the decades since his death, she said. “For many years there was a lot of sadness, we felt that the ground had fallen out from beneath our feet,” she recalled. “But slowly, slowly the family expanded, there are children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren… This year we will celebrate theholiday at my daughter Sophie’s house, we will keep smiling.”

The voice of “Our Man in Damascus,” Eli Cohen, was heard in Israel for the first time in decades today – in a long-lost recording of an interview he once conducted with Radio Damascus.
Eli Cohen, alias Kamal Amin Ta'abet, rose up in the ranks of the Syrian Defense Ministry and was a candidate for the position of Deputy Defense Minister – until it was discovered that he was actually an Israeli spy and had been passing critical information to Israel every day for three years. An Israeli Jew who was born in Egypt, he moved to Argentina to create his cover as the son of Syrian expatriates. Cohen was hanged in Damascus in May 1965.
His widow, Nadia, an Iraqi Jewess whom he wed in 1959 and mother of his three children, never remarried. “We weren’t so surprised to hear of this recording,” she toldIsrael National News (INN) Sunday, shortly after the recording was played on Army Radio, “because we knew about it – but shortly after we first heard it, it disappeared, never to be heard from for 45 years. We tried to get it from the party that took it, but in vain – until Army Radio reporter Jackie Hugi came along and was able to get this emotional surprise for us.”
Israel's Greatest SpyCohen was considered Israel’s greatest spy, revealing information about the Syrian water project to divert Jordan River waters away from Israel and about Syrian militarypositions in the Golan Heights. The information was used to tremendous advantage: In early 1964, the Israeli Air Force put an end to the Syrian water diversion scheme by shelling and bombing the equipment involved; during the Six-Day War in 1967, his information helped Israel capture the Golan Heights in two days.
At one point in 1962, he was interviewed on Radio Damascus, and asked various questions about life in Argentina compared with Syria and the like. Little did the interviewer or listeners dream that Hawaja [Mr.] Kamal Amin Ta'abet was actually Eli Cohen from Bat Yam, Israel. He said that in some ways, Syria was nicer than he had thought it would be, and answered questions about the cultural life of the Syrian community in Argentina. He was careful not to mention names or other specifics.
Speaking with INN, Nadia bemoaned the ongoing punishment by Syria of her family: “They continue to ignore my requests to tell us where Eli is buried. We live under constant punishment, and our pain does not end… My children have suffered greatly; two of them barely remember him, while none of them were ever able to enjoy experiences of fatherly love or support. He was an amazing man, and would have been an amazing father.”
The entire recording, in Arabic, will be played on Israel's  Army Radio at 7 p.m. this evening.

White House Officials Met with Muslim Brotherhood Islamic Terrorist Organization in Nation’s Capital

In February 2011, the director of the FBI told members of a House of Representatives committee that portions of the Muslim Brotherhood have direct ties to Islamic terrorism.  Yesterday, members of this group met with White House officials in the nation’s capital.

And even though the Muslim Brotherhood said they would not field a presidential candidate in Egypt they not only have changed their minds (no surprise) but they have stated their “first and final” objective if they won would be to make Sharia the law of the land.

White House spokesman Jay Carney said:

We have broadened our engagement to include new and emerging political parties and actors.  Because of the fact that Egypt’s political landscape has changed, the actors have become more diverse and our engagement reflects that. The point is that we will judge Egypt’s political actors by how they act — not by their religious affiliation.

Of course that last bit – nice and “non-judgemental” is a sop to the “Celebrate Diversity” crowd but hard to see how when a group has said spreading Sharia Law (that’s a religious law) to every part of the world would not be enough evidence for these dolts.

And U.S. officials have not condemned the Muslim Brotherhood for changing their mind and fielding a candidate or for stating Sharia Law as their goal.

A woman in America complains that birth control is too expensive and Liberals have fits.  A candidate in another nation speaks on behalf of a party that wants to keep women illiterate and locked up and then his group meets with White House officials and nothing is said.

Who is being “anti-woman” in this situation?

Obamabots might say the U.S. doesn’t want to interfere in another country’s politics… then why call for the overthrown of Egypt’s last president, Libya’s last leader, and Syria’s current one?

The political and social landscape in Egypt is turning very ugly.  American reporters have been raped, beat up, Christians have been murdered and their churches burned down, and Israel has already had a rocket shot into its territory from there.

It’s an Obama world… we’re all just victims living in it.

WASHINGTON, April 5 (KUNA) — The White House defended the decision to release USD 1.5 billion in foreign aid to Egypt, on Thursday, following meetings between U.S. officials and lawmakers and representatives of the Muslim Brotherhood in Washington.
“We believe it is in the interest of the United States to engage with all parties in Egypt and to continue to engage with Egypt, because Egypt has been an important ally of the United States and has played a significant role in the region, “White House spokesman Jay Carney told reporters.
Carney did not answer why the foreign aid was released all at once, rather than in tranches as some lawmakers had strongly lobbied for after the Egyptian government prosecuted American and international pro-democracy workers.
However, he said the Obama administration is engaging with Egypt’s new actors “to try to work with them during this historic transformation in the post-revolution era and to try to encourage them both to pursue democracy in its fullest sense as well as pursue the kind of international obligations that they’ve maintained in the past.”
The United States gives Egypt USD 1.5 billion in military aid annually that must be spent on U.S. made weapons and goods, including M1A1 tanks and F-16 fighter jets.
Separately, Carney acknowledged the Obama administration, including national security officials, and lawmakers met with representatives of the Muslim Brotherhood, saying “Anyone who has paid any attention to the post-revolution developments in Egypt that the Muslim Brotherhood will be a major player”.

Israel presents new deterrence policy

IDF chief Gantz unveils new policy whereby any firing from Gaza, Sinai will be met with attack on Hamas, fire from Lebanon will result in attack on Hezbollah and any overseas attack will prompt response against Iran.

(Ynet Shahar Chai) IDF Chief of Staff Benny Gantz on Thursday declared a change in army policy whereby any firing at Israel’s south will be met with an attack on Hamas, regardless of the group behind the fire. Similarly, any firing from Lebanon will result in an attack onHezbollah, and any terror attack by Iran’s emissaries overseas will prompt a response against Tehran.

Speaking at a conference in the Gelilot base, Gantz discussed the many threats Israel faces. “The IDF is Israel’s sharpened sword and protector,” he noted. He also addressed the firing of rockets at Eilat on Wednesday night.

It is estimated that three rockets were fired from Sinai, one of which exploded near residential buildings. The remaining two rockets have yet to be found. There were no injuries. Egyptian officials denied that the rockets had been fired from Sinai, and one security official said the Israeli reports were erroneous.

Referring to last month’s round of violence in the south, Gantz said: “After disrupting a lethal terror attack, we endured attacks from the Gaza Strip for which Hamas was responsible. We acted with determination and caused grave damage to the terror organization. We proved once again that we are able to protect the lives of Israeli civilians and strike those who seek to harm us with force.” 

Gantz warned that “anyone who tries to test us, domestically or overseas, will find a sophisticated army ready to defend Israel and subdue its enemies.”

Alluding to recent terror attacks in India, Thailand and Georgia, the IDF chief said, “We know the source of these attacks and those behind them must know that Israel’s long arm will ultimately reach anyone who seeks to harm Israeli civilians and the Jewish people, Whether in Gaza, Lebanon or anywhere else.”

The depth of President Obama’s betrayal of his sworn oath to “preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution of the United States” is still being chewed over by those who heard him utter the following words on television:

Ultimately, I am confident that the Supreme Court will not take what would be an unprecedented, extraordinary step of overturning a law that was passed by a strong majority of a democraticallyelected Congress.

And I’d just remind conservative commentators that, for years, what we have heard is, the biggest problem on the bench was judicial activism, or a lack of judicial restraint, that an unelected group of people would somehow overturn a duly constituted and passed law.

Journolists in the Liberal media are trying to explain Obama’s statements as a “gaffe” or an “oversight” but they were neither of these… they were a clear attempt at street thug-level intimidation.

Obama’s spokesperson, James Carney, tried to do damage control:

He certainly was not contending—that the Supreme Court doesn’t have as its right and responsibility the ability to overturn laws passed by Congress as unconstitutional.

He was referring to 85 years of judicial precedent, of Supreme Court precedent, with regard to matters like the one under consideration. And it’s maybe fun to pretend he meant otherwise, but everyone here knows that that’s what he meant.”

That’s crap and Carney knows it.  One does not use the words “unprecedented” and “extraordinary” and “unelected” just for sport.

And in a very rare move, Fifth Circuit Court Judge Smith asked the Justice Department:

Does the Department of Justice recognize that federal courts have the authority in appropriate circumstances to strike federal statutes because of one or more constitutional infirmities?  I want to be sure that you are telling us that the attorney general and the Department of Justice do recognize the authority of the federal courts through unelected judges to strike acts of Congress or portions thereof in appropriate cases.

This is that serious folks.

In the past, Obama has called himself “a constitutional law professor” and he taught courses on the United States Constitution at the University of Chicago.

Here’s what he said in 2007 at a fundraiser:

I was a constitutional law professor, which means unlike the current president[George W. Bush] I actually respect the Constitution.

Technically, Obama was a “senior lecturer” at the University of Chicago, not a professor there, but this is a minor point not germaine to this discussion.

So one must presume Obama understands the Constituion, the concept of “Checks and Balances,” and the meaning of Judicial Review as well.

Furthermore, Obama was not speaking off-the-cuff at a dinner party and joking around with his tablemates.  This was an official speech.

He knew what he was doing.

And what he was doing was a classic tactic of the Left.

Had the former occupant of the Oval Office made such remarks regarding any topic the result would have been explosive.  All of the journolists would have gone insane.  Plagarizer Maureen Dowd would have written a scathing column making fun of Bush.  Katie Couric would have discussed the Supreme Court on her program, Wolf Blizter would have done an in-depth story as to how much of an idiot George W. Bush was, and Newsweek would have selected a photo of the U.S. Constitution burning with Bush behind it.

But, because the Left doesn’t want to see Obamakare (and the promise of a more powerful Government) overturned there is nary a word being said.

Except for George Washington, every United States president has belonged to a member of a political party but placing their politics, party, and re-election fate over the Constitution has been verboten.

There are plenty of lawless savages in the land who work every day to undermine the Constitutional, law-oriented nature of our society in the hopes of replacing it with some home-brewed idea of a Utopian society.  These barbarians are constantly testing the fences, poking and prodding looking for weaknesses or a way in and having the nation’s highest elected official suggest that a branch of our Government is not within its Right to do its job is treasonous.

This nation does not need to go through the type of social upheaval such as what happened in the 1960s when people such as John and Robert Kennedy and Martin Luther King, Jr. were assassinated by people who disagreed with them.

President Obama’s words against the Supreme Court are not, by themselves, calamitous though they could easily lead down that path.

Such a man does not appear to respect the institutions of Government and a hasty departure after November 5th is in order.
